Midterm Blog Post

The projects that I have made are a Peacock platter, salt and pepper shakers, and a slab house. Out of the three, I like my slab house the most because I felt that I pushed myself the most on it. I didnt like my salt and pepper shakers and my platter because I glazed unevenly and because not all sides of both projects are even so I think they look messy. My slab house is more successful because I found this project to be the most exciting and interesting, I really wanted to make it look good. I'm proud of the craftsmanship of my house and how I carved out my peacock, but my salt and pepper shakers could have been better.  The salt and pepper shakers were didficult for me to make but I could have made them better taking my time.

Midterm Blog Post

The projects that I have made are a book sculpture, zentangle drawing, and a metal pin. The project that I like the most is my book sculpture, and then my zentangle looks good but not my best work, and my pin i do not like at all. My book sculpture is most successful to me because I had an idea when l first got started and I work better with paper than metal. I'm not pleased with the craftsmanship done on my pin but I am pleased with the book sculpture and zentangle. The pin was difficult to make, i think it could have improved if i had more time to so it because I felt that I was rushing to finish it. For my book sculpture, i felt l could have came up with a better scene, something more unique than a graveyard. I am proud of my work when I look at it when I'm done, I feel satisfaction, and since I don't like some of my work, i know that I can always improve when it comes to the next project. For next semester, I would like to work with paper mâché again, I would like to make a masquerade mask.

Art Reflection - Ceramics and Sculpture

In Ceramics and Sculpture we've have made name tiles, coil pots, plates, and currently pinch pot creatures. I have been really enjoying my time in this class because I have surprised myself with how good my projects have been turning out, because their not sloppy like I thought they would turn out and I've been careful not to leave any air holes open since known of my projects have blown up yet. I've learned how to use the clay utensils and slip, which have been a huge help. What's harder is trying to make the image you depict come out that way when working with clay, like my owl isn't really looking like one, it more or less looks like a penguin.

Art Reflection - 3-D Design

In 3-D Design we have made collages, shrinky dink jewelry, and metal jewelry using the design principles. I am enjoying my time in 3-D Design, I've been wanting to take an art class since I found out that I can learn to make jewelry. What I've learned is how to work with metal, like cutting it out, shaping it, sawing, and polishing it. I've also learned how to put jump ring holes in my jewelry projects to make them into necklaces. I am a little familiar working with clay because I'm also in Cermaics and Sculpture. I have pushed myself more and have expanded my knowledge in this class because I have the opportunity to make some really creatives jewelry since I don't have all the supplies I would need at my house. I've learned that I'm better at drawing than cutting out that design in metal, but I am surprising myself with how well I've been with sawing. I've been pleased with the way my jewelry has turned out for a beginner, like my shrinky dink jewelry I was pleased with because I added beads to my necklace, which worked out better than I expected and I got to learn how to make earrings that made me satisfied that they turned out cute.

Symmetrical pendant

For the pendant we had to come up with a 3-dimensional design and cut it out of the metal, then we had to smooth and polish it.

Coil Pots

The requirements were to make a creative, unique coil pot. I didn't exactly plan out how I was making it, I just came up with ideas as I progressed. I am very happy with the way it has turned out so far :) It was hard for me to come up with an idea because I didn't think there was many creative things you can do with coil pots. I liked making the coil pots better than the tiles because it's easier creating something when building up.

Principles of Design Collage

The assignment was that we create a mini paper tile by applying the design principles. The principle I used for this one is Dominance. What I liked about this project is that I learned about the design principles and it was fun because we got to create them with our own creativity, not someone else ideas.
